Estonia and Latvia

The Mežotne Palace is a manor house around 20km from the Lithuanian/Latvian border that now offers reasonably priced accommodation. It is surrounded by a beautifully landscaped park that fronts onto the Lielupe River. In 1795, the Russian Empress Catherine II transferred the Mežotne estate to the governess of her grandchildren for lifelong use and this mansion was constructed not long after.
